This product is a white block or powder, allowing for a slight yellow or light pink color. It is odorless, slightly sweet and then turns pungent. There is no change when exposed to air. It can sublimate under normal pressure below 76° C. When heated under normal pressure, it is easily decarboxylated into phenol and carbon dioxide. Its aqueous solution shows an acidic reaction, and it turns purple with FeCI3. This product is slightly soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, readily soluble in ethanol or ether, and slightly soluble in chloroform.

Iv. Uses:
This product is a disinfectant and antiseptic. It dissolves keratin in the skin. It is used for local keratinosis and fungal infections of the skin. It is formulated as 醑剂 for external use in the treatment of keratin and tinea.
