Ii. Physical and Chemical Properties
This product is a light pink to light brown crystalline powder, odorless, slightly sweet and then turns pungent. It remains unchanged when exposed to air. It can sublimate under normal pressure below 76° C. When heated under normal pressure, it is easily decarboxylated to form phenol and carbon dioxide. The solution shows an acidic reaction and turns purple with FeCI3. This product is slightly soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, readily soluble in ethanol or ether, and slightly soluble in chloroform.
